Oprah mag's publisher bails out

Published on .

Alyce Alston left her publisher's perch at O, the Oprah Magazine for the same slot at Fairchild Publications' W. Ms. Alston, 36, oversaw the wildly successful launch of Oprah Winfrey's magazine in April. Jill Seeling, 38, will move up from ad director to publisher. Despite the Hearst Magazines/Harpo Entertainment Group title's outstanding performance--its September rate base of 900,000 nearly doubles its launch rate base of 500,000--O now has lost its original publisher and editor in chief, Ellen Kunes, who resigned after finishing work on the second issue. At W, Ms. Alston succeeds Susan Blank, who left late last month.
