(June 15, 2001) -- Orbitz.com, the new airline-backed travel site, saw its traffic grow among home users by 382% during the week of June 10, making it the fastest-growing site on the Internet, according to Nielsen/NetRatings.

The site gathered 689,000 unique visitors during the week, as compared to 143,000 visitors during the week of June 3. Nielsen said that 28% of those who visited saw the registration page, and that traffic to the site was split 53 to 47 between males and females.

Orbitz is backed by a consortium of the top five U.S. airlines -- American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Northwest Airlines and United Airlines. -- Catharine P. Taylor
