Organic Online opens in N.Y.

Interactive agency Organic Online has hired Michael Golden, former Bates Worldwide VP-director of interactive programming, as VP and head of its new office here. The San Francisco-based interactive agency is developing a New York staff of seven to 10 that could include additional Bates hires. Also believed to be leaving Bates is Steve Tortorici, senior VP-creative director of Bates Interactive.

Organic Online is one of the interactive companies affiliated with Omnicom Group's Communicade interactive holding company. The office, under discussion for several years, will open with four clients, including current Organic client Colgate-Palmolive Co., said Michael Hudes, president.

Organic wasn't financially able to open in New York until it received the Omnicom investment, Mr. Hudes said. "Up until the Omnicom investment we had bootstrapped the business," he said. Omnicom acquired a minority stake in the company earlier this year.
