Outdoor advertising revenue hit $5.2 billion last year, up 8.3% over 1999, according to the Outdoor Advertising Association of America. Telecommunications was the highest growth category, rising 40.4% in 2000. Local services and amusements took the No. 1 spot, spending $709.6 million, up 13.2%, followed by retail, up 10.6% to $569 million, and public transportation, hotels and resorts, rising 9.4% to $507 million.
