P&G to roll out fat-free Pringles

Published on .

Procter & Gamble Co., Cincinnati, will roll out nationally fat-free Pringles potato chips with the company's patented olestra fat replacer Olean by next fall, Chairman-CEO John Pepper told shareholders Tuesday. In response to a shareholder's question, Mr. Pepper said fat-free Pringles, now in test in Columbus, Ohio, and Indianapolis, Ind., will be in Cincinnati and everywhere by next October's shareholder meeting. Pringles sales are up 25% from year-ago levels in the Olean test markets, Mr. Pepper said. The Cincinnati plant that will support national production of Olean won't be finished until some time in the first half of 1998.
