P&G tempers expectations

Procter & Gamble Co., Cincinnati, termed "optimistic" earlier projections of 1% to 2% volume growth for the fiscal second quarter, ending Dec. 31. P&G didn't adjust earnings forecasts and stood by Chairman-CEO John Pepper's earlier forecast of an improvement in volume and revenue in the second half of the fiscal year, ending June 30.
