Shell Oil Co. and Texaco said they plan to combine refining and marketing operations in the Midwest and western U.S., and are in talks with Saudi Refining about combining Shell and Texaco operations in the eastern U.S. The new company will continue to market gasoline under the Shell and Texaco brands. The companies said their combined share of branded gasoline sales and their combined share of automotive lubricants in the U.S. would each be slightly less than 15%. Ogilvy & Mather, Houston, handles Shell; Bates USA, New York, handles Texaco.
