OSLO--Norwegian communications group Telenor has launched the Pakistani commercial TV channel Prime TV in Europe. The channel will be encrypted and is available to viewers throughout Europe.

Prime TV is part of the expatriate channel concept ColourSat that is marketed by Telenor. ColourSat also offers other expatriate channels, such as Norway's NRK International, the Danish channel DR 1, TV Finland and the Russian channel ORT International, which has signed up 4,000 subscribers since launching outside Russia in November.

Prime TV is primarily a 24-hour family entertainment channel, sending popular Pakistani dramas, documentaries, children's programs, talk and variety shows, films and news updates from Pakistan.

"ColourSat's goal is to become the leading partner for dealer networks and distributors of ethnic and thematic infotainment in Europe," says Kjell Lovbakken, ColourSat's managing director.

Prime TV targets the two million Pakistanis living in Europe and the multi-cultural groups from the Punjab and Bengali areas of India and Bangladesh.

Prime TV has exclusive rights to compile a multi-cultural channel from the current and archived programs provided by national Pakistani TV, one of the most popular TV channels in Pakistan.
