Pentium Pro in debut

Published on .

Intel Corp., Santa Clara, Calif., formally announced its move into the high-end computer market segments--workstations, professional desktop computers and servers--by introducing its next-generation chip, the Pentium Pro. "Pentium Pro processor-based systems will bring PC economics into market segments that haven't seen PC-style price/performance in the past," said G. Carl Everett, senior VP, Desktop Products Group. Intel plans no special marketing effort around the introduction, relying on the companies that use the chip in their products.
