Excite, Redwood City, Calif., named Andy Halliday as VP-commerce, overseeing the company e-commerce and shopping initiatives. Mr. Halliday was formerly co-president of Simon Brand Ventures, a unit of mall developer Simon Debartolo Group, Indianapolis.

Online grocer Peapod, Skokie, Ill., promoted Dan Rabinowitz to VP-chief financial officer. Mr. Rabinowitz, who was most recently VP-financial planning and control, and treasurer, takes the place of John Miller, who Peapod said resigned to pursue a new venture.
