Rare Medium, New York, named Suresh V. Mathews president-chief operating officer. Mr. Mathews joins Rare Medium from Quaker State Corp., where he served as senior VP-chief information officer. The company also has appointed Vincent J. Santo senior VP-operations. Mr. Santo previously served as VP-general manager, eastern region, for Context Integration, a Web systems integration company. Glenn S. Meyers remains as chairman-president-CEO of parent company Rare Medium Group.

Theglobe.com, New York, named Kerri Fox, formerly director-corporate marketing for Gruner & Jahr USA Publishing, director of marketing. Ms. Fox succeeds Susan Berkowitz, who left theglobe.com last fall. It also named Ronald DiPrete, formerly an associate in the corporate department of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson, New York, director of corporate development.

Chicago interactive agency Giant Step named Michael Ruffalo, formerly a manager at Renaissance Worldwide, to the new position of chief financial officer. Two other new appointments were Steven Weinswig, formerly VP-account director at Leo Burnett Co., to VP-account management and new business, and Mark Rattin, formerly managing partner at 3st2 (thirst too), an Internet start-up and the sister company of design company Thirst, to director of creative development.

Four Points Digital, Chicago, named Gina Fratarcangeli, former Midwest account manager at PointCast, director of business development.
