Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive, the new media and electronic publishing subsidiary of Washington Post Co., named Christopher Schroeder CEO-publisher, succeeding Marc Teren. Mr. Schroeder, who will be based in Washington, formerly served as president-chief operating officer at the company.

Excite@Home, Redwood City, Calif., named Kris Carpenter to the new post of VP-general manager, commerce. Ms. Carpenter, who formerly was director of search development, succeeds Andy Halliday, VP-commerce, who left the company in October.

San Francisco-based online media agency Mediasmith named Charlotte Sweeny media account director and James Acerra media manager. Ms. Sweeny was formerly VP-media account director at FCB Worldwide, San Francisco. Mr. Acerra was formerly a media consultant at Bates USA, New York.
