Pepsi blue in the space

Published on .

Pepsi-Cola Co. said it has begun filming the world's first commercial in space as part of its partnership with the Russian Mir space station. Two cosmonauts on a spacewalk on Monday filmed the deployment of a large-scale replica of Pepsi's new blue can, introduced internationally in April. It was sent into space May 5 aboard the Russian Progress rocket.

The concept was developed by EMCI, Stamford, Conn., and Space Marketing Inc., Atlanta. The commercial, produced by BBDO Worldwide, New York, will air in 1997. Behind-the-scenes video clips and photos of the space commercial can be viewed on the Internet at JetScream, Pepsi's international site on the World Wide Web.
