Pepsi hands Aquafina water to Thompson

Published on .

Pepsi-Cola Co., Puchase, N.Y., has tapped roster agency J. Walter Thompson, New York, to handle advertising for its fast-growing Aquafina water brand following a review. The brand, which has had little ad support to date, will be backed by TV, print and outdoor advertising in 2000. BBDO Worldwide, New York, will handle media buying and planning. BBDO West, Los Angeles, was the brand's first agency of record. Contenders included BBDO, along with sibling Omnicom Group shops DDB Worldwide, and Merkley Newman Harty, New York. JWT is the agency for Pepsi-Cola's Lipton Brisk iced tea.
