Succeeds Dave Burwick
Previously VP of non-carbonated soft drinks, Ms. Nicholson succeeds Dave Burwick, who last week was elevated to president of Pepsi-Quaker, Tropicana and Gatorade Canada.
In addition, Meena Mansharamani, VP-strategic initiatives at Pepsi-Cola North America, will oversee consumer insights and innovation in a new position, said executives with knowledge of the situation.
Ms. Nicholson had been considered a front-runner for the post, as was nine-year Pepsi-Cola veteran Katie Lacey, most recently VP-carbonated soft drinks. But Ms. Lacey is leaving to join ESPN as senior VP-marketing beginning Dec. 5, to succeed Lee Ann Daley, exec VP-marketing.
Ad Age honors
Ms. Nicholson was named to Advertising Age’s Marketing 50 in 2003 for her work shepherding Sierra Mist into a top 10 brand. Earlier, as marketing director for Mountain Dew, she was honored in 2001 as an Advertising Age’s Woman to Watch after Mountain Dew’s Code Red line extension became a runaway hit.
Ms. Nicholson, a Chicago native, joined the beverage giant in 1997 as director-innovation in the company’s fountain beverage unit after an eight-year run at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Holdings’ R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. It was the nonsmoker’s first job after receiving an MBA. There, she crafted nontraditional marketing strategies for Camel, repositioned Winston and launched the Eclipse smokeless cigarette.
