Philip Morris attacks underage smoking

Published on .

Philip Morris USA announced in New York on Tuesday that it is launching a campaign to underscore its opposition to underage smokers and its support of state legislation to stop the sale of cigarettes to minors. The efforts include discontinuation of free sampling and direct mailing of cigarettes, the addition of an "Underage Sale Prohibited" notice on packaging by this fall, merchandising actions against retailers convicted of selling to minors and providing free signage materials to retailers under its "Ask First/It's the Law" campaign. Ads explaining the company's position break Wednesday in newspapers in the top 30 markets.
