MANILA -- ABS-CBN Broadcasting, the Philippines' largest TV station, has ventured into international film production via a newly-formed subsidiary ABS- CBN Entertainment.

The decision to go international was prompted by the success last year of the local TV station's co- production of "Goodbye America," which starred Rae Dawn Chong and Hollywood actors James Brolin and Michael York. The movie was sold in more than 65 countries world-wide. Apart from ABS-CBN, Pacific Hollywood, a U.S. firm, also produced the movie.

ABS-CBN says it would concentrate on producing two to three English language films per year. It would also work in TV and other formats for inter- national production by harnessing Filipino talents and exposing them to foreign viewers and markets. The producer of "Goodbye America," Michael Sellers, was appointed president of ABS-CBN Entertainment.

"We think that with careful selection and development of quality programming, we can come up with two to three projects per year that will meet buyer expectations world-wide for quality international programming," notes Sellers.
