TWO PILLARS OF THE COMMUNITY

By Published on .

On paper, John Pepper and Durk Jager seem as different as the Cincinnati suburbs in which they live. Mr. Jager resides in what has been described as a $2.5 million mansion in Indian Hill, the same suburb that has been the home of Ed Artzt. Mr. Pepper has a less assuming house in Wyoming, another upscale 'burb.

Mr. Pepper has no country club ties, while Mr. Jager belongs to the city's oldest club, the Hyde Park Golf & Country Club.

Mr. Pepper has been married to Frances Garber since 1967 and has four children; Mr. Jager married Ingrid Rosa Maria Baart in 1965 and has two children.

Mr. Pepper's community activities have included chairing the 1994 Cincinnati United Way Campaign; he's now co-chairman of the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative. Mr. Jager, who's said to "speak Japanese like a Japanese," is chairman of the Japan-America Society of Greater Cincinnati and a member of the Cincinnati Council on World Affairs.
