Pink Dot taps BBDO for creative, media account

Published on .

Pink Dot, a California-based fast-delivery food store that was virtual before the age of e-commerce, named BBDO Worldwide, Los Angeles, as first agency on its estimated $10 million account. BBDO won following a review that included six undisclosed shops. The agency will handle both creative and media. Pink Dot stores--featuring large pink signs, mirrored windows or no windows at all and almost no doors--have been a ubiquitous and somewhat mysterious presence in California for more than a decade. The franchise opened in 1987 as a phone-in, 24-hour food delivery outlet. The company went online (pinkdot.com) in 1997 and now is embarking on an image makeover that will reposition the brand as a national, e-commerce speedy-delivery destination rivaling Kozmo.com and Urban.fetch.
