The deal makes Pirelli the largest European client for Tibco, whose software will be used to provide real-time information to Pirelli, allowing it to streamline its traditional business processes and also to step up its Internet-related business plans.
The company broke new ground earlier this year with its one-size-fits-all P2500 tire, available only to Internet customers. The P2500 has so far surpassed sales estimates to become one of the best selling tires in Italy. With its new technology, the company says it would be able to expand that kind of marketing to the rest of Europe.
The company says it may refer to its streamlined business systems in its advertising once they are up and running. Milan's Armando Testa handles most of Pirelli's advertising.
