PlayStation 2 arrives Oct. 26

Sony Computer Entertainment of America unveiled at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles its ambitious plans for the new PlayStation 2. Sony will launch the broadband-ready console Oct. 26 in North America and projects sellthrough of 3 million units by the end of March 2001. Sony expects to spend at least $150 million to market PlayStation 2 and the existing PlayStation. TBWA/Chiat/Day, San Francisco and Playa del Rey, Calif., handles. Also at the meeting of the interactive entertainment industry, Nintendo of America said Gold and Silver versions of its Pokemon game software will launch Oct. 16. Nintendo noted that the Pokemon franchise (including licensed merchandise) represented $1.6 billion at retail during its last fiscal year, ended March 31.
