PM report Marlboro gains

Philip Morris Cos., New York, announcing its 1999 earnings Jan. 26, said that while its shipments of cigarettes declined 8.5% last year as a result of falling industry volume, its share of the U.S. market grew to 49.6%, up 0.2 points from 1998. Philip Morris said the Marlboro brand grew to a 36.4% share of industry shipments in the U.S., up 1.2 points from '98. The company reported 1999 net earnings of $7.9 billion, up 2.2%.
