PointCast opens a channel for marketers

Published on .

PointCast Network on Wednesday unveiled a system for any Web site to push content to PointCast users. Dubbed Connections, the system's first marketer participants are Toshiba, Oracle, MCI Communications Corp., Fidelity Investments, PC Financial Network and Microsoft Corp's Expedia and CarPoint services. Marketers pay nothing to use the service; by simply inserting a bit of code onto certain pages, they indicate that they are PointCast-enabled. Only those marketers who are also significant advertisers on PointCast qualify for a premier positioning, however, which gives them a listing on the Connections directory.

"Rather than invest [in proprietary push technology], this is an absolutely risk-free way to experiment with push," said Anna Zornosa, senior VP-advertising sales and affiliate development.
