Portals compete to transmit Brazil's carnival festivities

Published on .

SAO PAULO--Internet portals will compete with TV networks to transmit coverage of Brazil's world-famous carnivals March 3-4.

Universo Online and IBM Corp. have joined forces to cover the carnival parade in Salvador with Web cams and transmit the images on a special Web site (chamegente.com.br). Last year, 90,000 people around the world accessed the UOL Web site.

This year StarMedia, the Spanish- and Portuguese-language portal, will be in Salvador covering the carnival and chatting with personalities taking part in the celebration. The coverage can be found on StarMedia's site at (especial.br.starmedia.com/carnaval/).
