Portland appoints mindshare man

Published on .

LONDON -- International outdoor media planning and buying network Portland has drafted in the media director of J. Walter Thompson, London, as its first U.K. managing director.

Mike Wood joins Portland July 28, reporting to Chairman and Chief Executive Dennis Sullivan.

JWT's U.K. media department is in the throes of merging with that of Ogilvy & Mather to create MindShare.

Portland says the creation of the U.K. managing directorship "follows a period of strong growth both in the U.K. and internationally" which necessitates "more managerial focus for the burgeoning U.K. business."

Portland claims to be the world's biggest outdoor media planning and buying specialist, with 23 offices in nine countries and billings of $251 million.
