Post cereals' Callahan resigns

Tim Callahan, 38, resigned suddenly as exec VP-general manager, Kraft Foods' Post cereals unit, and was succeeded by Michael Polk, 37, formerly VP-category sales management and strategy for Kraft's Sales & Customer Service organization. Mr. Callahan was a key player in Post's cereal price rollback in 1996 and the second high-level cereal executive to leave his post this week. Yesterday, Kellogg Co. disclosed the departure of Kellogg North America President Tom Knowlton. Mr. Polk, credited with helping to turn around Kraft's Maxwell House business by redirecting $40 million in trade spending toward advertising in 1996, then worked with Ann Fudge, now president, Maxwell House & Post division. Ogilvy & Mather, New York, handles Post and Maxwell House.
