Postal service proposes new parcel rates

Published on .

The U.S. Postal Service is considering imitating its closest competitors, Federal Express Corp. and United Parcel Service, with a proposal to determine rates on parcels by distance and size. Postal officials say the plan, which would go into effect next year if OK'd by the Postal Rate Commission, will lower costs for bulk mailers and mail-order customers.
