TORONTO--Darcia Joseph has announced she will be leaving Young & Rubicam here as president-chief operating officer. John Farquhar, currently exec VP-co-creative director will take on the title of president and chief creative officer, effective immediately, while the agency begins an immediate search for a chief operating officer to join Mr. Farquhar in leading the agency. In the meantime, Ms. Joseph will continue as chief operating officer during the transition period.

David Adams will continue to partner with Mr. Farquhar as exec VP-creative director.

Peter Stringham, North American chairman-CEO for Y&R Advertising, says Ms. Joseph "has made a significant contribution to Y&R Canada, particularly in driving for a more integrated approach, which includes new media opportunities."

Ms. Joseph says the agency is announcing her leaving well in advance of her actually ending her stay at Y&R "so that continuity for clients and staff will not be an issue. It's rare that someone gets the opportunity to work with the succession, and we're going to make the most of it over the next quarter." As for her reasons to leave, she said "I've made a very personal decision to look at other opportunities."
