Prodigy hires away two NBC execs

Published on .

Two new-media executives have departed NBC for Prodigy. Josh Grotstein, formerly VP-general manager, NBC Online Ventures, New York, becomes senior VP-content at Prodigy, while Lisa Simpson, formerly director of business development at NBC News, becomes senior VP-strategic business alliances.

Both are new posts at Prodigy, although Prodigy spokesman Mike Darcy said Prodigy President Ed Bennett had been looking to fill the content position for several months.

"We see this as the new TV. NBC Online Ventures was a startup that's a part of a whole cross-media strategy for NBC," Mr. Grotstein said. "Prodigy is singularly focused on online."

The moves leave a gaping hole in NBC's online executive lineup, particularly as relates to Microsoft Network. Mr. Grotstein and Ms. Simpson oversaw NBC's rollout on the online service. Replacements at NBC will be announced Wednesday.
