Published on .

Prodigy is licensing technology to 20 different online newspaper titles for customized classified ad systems on their Web sites. Companies signing to work with Prodigy include Times Mirror Co.'s Newsday, as well as The Tampa Tribune and Southam New Media of Canada which owns titles in 17 Canadian dailies in markets ranging from Montreal to Vancouver. The ad system was originally built for Houston Chronicle Interactive. Prodigy also plans to market prodigy.net to newspapers for potential licensing deals in which publishers could license an Internet access product from Prodigy to their readers.
