Continuing its mission to move towards a Web-centric access and business model, Prodigy
announced plans to test a beginner-targeted $1-per-hour Internet access service in the New York area starting March 19. Users will not pay a monthly fee and will get access to Netscape Navigator 2.0
. A national product is slated for launch at a later date.
The online service also debuts prodigy.net, a partnership program for any business wishing to brand Prodigy's Internet access product with its own logos, marketing, and packaging materials. CompuServe's Internet Division markets a similar service.
