Interpublic Group of Cos., New York, agreed last week to buy Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos, a Boston-based agency with about $600 million in billings, for an estimated $100 million in stock.

It's Interpublic's second major acquisition in 1998; last month, it acquired Carmichael Lynch, Minneapolis.

Interpublic also reported a 16.5% increase in net income in 1997 to $239.1 million from $205.2 million in 1996 and its agency networks gained $1.2 billion in net new business during 1997, up 8% over 1996.
