In recent weeks, RJR Nabisco's stock has weathered both Chairman-CEO Steven Goldstone's announcement the company was pulling out of the tobacco agreement and the disclosure of soft first-quarter earnings from its food unit. Nabisco Biscuit Co.'s sales fell 1% for the quarter. The U.S. Foods Group, which markets condiments and non-cookie products, saw sales grow 1% to $530 million but operating profit for U.S. Foods fell 3% "behind higher consumer marketing spending," Nabisco said.
