It seemed inevitable that if the market remained bullish long enough, cable stocks would catch fire. And they have. Segment leader TCI has become a darling on Wall Street. Investors approved of the hiring of Leo Hindrey last year as No. 2 to longtime CEO John Malone, and the two have created cable partnerships to help ease TCI's debt load. The deal with AT&T Corp. for Teleport has gotten high marks as well. Analysts also like Mr. Malone's scenarios for the future of digital TV; this time they may actually come true.
