Purveyors of push technology will soon face a shakeout, according to a new report from International Data Corp. The report states that even those push services that achieve short-term success by targeting business users and achieving financing will soon face challenges from both software companies (Microsoft, Netscape, etc.) as well as content providers themselves. Additionally, IDC says the strongest chances of success will be for companies that use push technology to provide software updates rather than information. There's only room for one or two leaders on the content delivery side, IDC believes.
