Q4 PC sales pick up

Published on .

U.S. personal computer sales this quarter will grow a strong 21%, boosted by sales of low-price consumer PCs, and will increase 17% next year, according to a forecast released today by International Data Corp., Framingham, Mass. IDC predicted global sales will increase 15% this quarter and 13.5% next year, with growth depressed by economic turmoil in Asia. IDC forecast the industry's global big four--Compaq Computer Corp., IBM Corp., Dell Computer Corp. and Hewlett-Packard Co.--will continue to pick up share in '98 at the expense of smaller brands.
