(July 2, 2001) -- Quaker Oats Co. today gave PepsiCo an additional 30 days to sell its All Sport beverage unit, as required by the acquisition agreement reached last December. All Sport holds less than 5% of the sports drink market, compared to 15% for Coca-Cola Co.'s Powerade and more than 70% for Gatorade. Officials of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission have expressed concern about a proposed sale of All Sport to Monarch Co., fearing the company won't be a formidable enough competitor to stand up to Pepsi and Coke, according to published reports. -- Jack Neff
