National radio revenue fell 15% in January, a significant drop from last year's strong surge of 25% for the same month, according to the Radio Advertising Bureau. Local radio fared slightly better, climbing 1% for the month. Monthly sales figures are based on the RAB's index of more than 100 markets. In order to report radio revenue in a more relevant context, RAB introduced an index to apply to 2001 figures and beyond, in which the base year, 1998, has a value of 100. For January, the combined local and national radio sales index is 132.1.
