Reed Elsevier gets Chilton

The bidding for Walt Disney Co.'s Chilton Business Group ended as expected today with Reed Elsevier the winner with a $447 million offer. Chilton's Radnor, Pa.-based US Trade Magazines Division and Chilton Research Services are to be merged with Reed Elsevier's Cahners Publishing Co. unit to form Reed Elsevier Business Information, a new operating group headed by Cahners President-CEO Bruce Barnet, Reed Elsevier said. Chilton's Professional Exhibition Management Co. will become part of Reed Exhibition Cos. Cahners publishes more than 90 specialized trade magazines; Chilton publishes 39 trade titles.
