Reed Elsevier invests in Internet company

Reed Elsevier and its Cahners Publishing Co. division invested in Mainspring Communications, a startup company that will provide information and communications about using Internet technologies to business executives. Mainspring hopes to launch its service in the first quarter. The companies are also discussing strategic alignments between Mainspring and Reed Elsevier's Lexis-Nexis database business. The size of the Reed investment wasn't disclosed; it was the lead investor in a second round of funding for Mainspring.
