Republicans to spend $7 mil on ads

National Republican Congressional Committee, Washington, said it will spend $7 million on TV ads in up to 26 states between now and Election Day to support Republican candidates for the House of Representatives. A spot promoting the achievements of the present Republican Congress will air on spot cable and broadcast TV in 26 states; a collection of 15 other commercials on specific issues will air in markets in 14 states. The committee did not immediately identify who created the ads or purchased the media time. Separately, People for the American Way, Washington, unveiled a pro-Clinton "Let's Move On" TV spot, which suggests to viewers that Congress needs to move on from a focus on President Clinton's problems. The group said it will spend $1 million to run the ad the week of Oct. 5 on cable TV and in select broadcast TV markets. The schedule could be extended if contributions allow, the group said.
