Results may give swimsuits the green

Published on .

The results of several recent national and local polls indicate that the swimsuit competition is likely to remain in this year's Miss America Pageant, scheduled to be telecast live on NBC on Sept. 16. Earlier this month, Miss America Organization President-CEO Leonard Horn and pageant producer and director Jeff Margolis said they would let the public determine whether the swimsuit competition should be eliminated from this year's 75th anniversary competition. They plan to offer a 900-number for call-in votes during the first hour of the live event to allow viewers to determine the fate of the controversial swimsuit competition. The largest poll to date, an "Entertainment Tonight" telephone poll conducted July 13-14, found 57% in favor of keeping the swimsuits.
