What will be the next wave in premium private label? Analysts and private label executives agree that detergents, diapers and dog food are ripe for the picking, and in fact, "any product [category] where the brand tax is scandalous" is a likely candidate, according to Cott Corp. President Dave Nichol.

Mr. Nichol, J.P. Morgan analyst Mark Husson and Private Label Manufacturers Association President Brian Sharoff predict manufacturers of store-labeled products, sniffing success from branded products in the following categories, will bring out their own premium versions in these top 10 in the coming year.

1. Baby food

2. Beer

3. Chilled, prepared meals and precut meat products

4. Cookies

5. Diapers

6. Fruit drink cocktails

7. Healthy, low-fat foods

8. Laundry detergent

9. Pet foods

10. Over-the-counter remedies
