Ripken will be cashing in

Published on .

Chevrolet today confirmed that it will use baseball star Cal Ripken Jr. in print ads for its pick-ups and other trucks, beginning with congratulatory ads in newspapers Sept. 7, the day after the Baltimore Orioles shortstop is slated to break Lou Gehrig's consecutive game record. "Chevy trucks stand for dependability and durability and no one in sports better exemplifies these qualities than Cal Ripkin," said Kurt Ritter, marketing manager-trucks at Chevrolet. Ira Rainess, Mr. Ripkin's agent, said the player will also be featured in an upcoming 60-second Nike commercial and on cereal boxes of General Mills' Wheaties.
