Rival bidder emerges for Metromail

American Business Information, Omaha, filed suit in Delaware Chancery Court to block U.K.-based Great Universal Stores' $831 million acquisition of database and direct marketing services company Metromail, Lombard, Ill. ABI, a provider of business information and data processing services and major shareholder of Metromail, made a counteroffer of $33 per share, or $850 million.
