Roth exits Disney Studios post

Published on .

Joe Roth exited Jan. 13 as chairman of Walt Disney Studios, ending five years at the helm of Walt Disney Co.'s movie business. Peter Schneider, president of Walt Disney Studios, replaced Mr. Roth as chairman. The departure was not a surprise, given that tensions had been growing in recent months between Mr. Roth and Disney's senior management. The move comes at a time when Walt Disney Co. Chairman-CEO Michael Eisner has been shaking up management in other key divisions, such as Disney Consumer Products. Disney's stock performance has not kept up with the stock market's gains, putting pressure on Mr. Eisner to get things moving. Mr. Roth will become an independent producer.
