Russian NTV ditches plans for two satellite channels

Published on .

MOSCOW -- Igor Malashenko, president of the Russian network NTV, says plans to launch all-news and all-music satellite channels later this year have been dropped, but four other satellite channels - on sports, Russian films, foreign films, and children's programming - will go ahead as planned.

However, news programming will remain a priority when NTV starts broadcasting 24 hours per day in Novemberor December. News updates will run several times each day and its nightly news program will extended from 30 minutes to one hour.
