S.C. Johnson to sell skincare brands to J&J

Published on .

Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick, N.J., said it agreed to acquire the dermatological skincare business of S.C. Johnson & Son, Racine, Wis. S.C. Johnson said the deal was part of its strategy to focus on household products. The brands, most notably the Aveeno skincare line, will become part of J&J's consumer products unit. A J&J spokesman said it was too soon to tell if Aveeno will receive additional marketing support as a result. Terms were not disclosed. The purchase is expected to close during the first quarter of 1999 subject to regulatory approval. Foote, Cone & Belding, Chicago, handles S.C. Johnson.
