S.F. power outage hits agencies

Published on .

A power outage in San Francisco today shut down communications from the financial district down to Silicon Valley. Computers are down at high-tech companies such as Internet Profiles Corp. and other Internet vendors, and businesses outside the Bay area are having trouble staying in touch. For example, Time Inc. New Media, New York, couldn't get through to its San Francisco offices this morning, said a spokesman. Even those with backup power were affected. "Our national sales manager's laptop is dead, so she can't dial out," lamented Jeff Lehman, VP-advertising sales at RealNetworks, Seattle.
