Saatchi & Saatchi on the hunt

London-based Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising, stung this week by the loss of the British Airways and Qantas account, went on the offensive today by placing ads in U.K. and U.S. newspapers looking for new business. In a reference to the British Airways tagline "The world's favourite airline" the Saatchi & Saatchi ad reads: "So, who wants to be the world's favourite now?" The page is otherwise blank except for small print at the bottom instructing readers where to contact the agency.

sponsor deal
American Express Travel Related Services Co. signed a multiyear deal with the National Basketball Association today to become the league's official charge and credit card sponsor. Terms were undisclosed. The deal includes commitment to purchase media time during NBA programming on NBC, Turner Network Television and TBS Superstation. AmEx recently was outbid and lost its National Football League sponsorship to Visa USA. Both AmEx and Visa have been talking with the NBA for some time about becoming a sponsor. While the league previously did not have a credit card sponsor, it had an ongoing marketing relationship with Visa.
